Terms of use

License

Kenny Writer and Kenny World are proprietary software. They are not open source. Subject to these terms, Mika Joël Dierks (“Licensor”) grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use each app on devices you own or control, free of charge for the desktop applications themselves.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or publicly redistribute the Kenny Writer or Kenny World installers or application binaries, mirror them on other download sites, bundle them into other products, or reverse engineer them except to the limited extent mandatory law allows.

Third-party open-source components included with Electron and other libraries remain under their own licenses. See Help → Third-party licenses in the app.

No Kenny account or cloud manuscript service

Kenny Writer does not require a Kenny account and does not provide a Kenny-hosted cloud for your manuscripts. Projects live in folders you choose on your device (or storage you attach).

Backups and your data

You are responsible for backing up your project folders and exports. Hardware failure, accidental deletion, or OS issues can destroy local files. Kenny Writer does not replace a backup strategy.

Optional cloud AI features send text you choose — including, for Concept Import, whole files or large chunks, and for optional AI ghost text (off by default) a short manuscript prefix — to third-party providers under their terms. Licensor does not control those providers’ retention or security beyond what their policies state.

Optional AI providers

If you configure Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, or another endpoint, you are solely responsible for complying with that provider’s terms, fees, and laws. Outputs may be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable; you must review them before relying on them in a manuscript or publication.

Website and downloads

The website and download.kennywriter.app are provided as-is for information and software distribution. Availability may change. Redistribution of installers from other hosts is not permitted without prior written permission.

Acceptable use

You may not use Kenny Writer or the site to violate law, infringe others’ rights, attack infrastructure, or circumvent security. You may not misrepresent installers as official Kenny Writer builds if you alter them.

Disclaimer of warranties

Kenny Writer and the website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Licensor does not warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every system, model, or file format.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Licensor is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business, arising from use of Kenny Writer, the website, downloads, or third-party AI providers.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under mandatory law (including liability for intent or gross negligence, or for injury to life, body, or health under German law where applicable).

Privacy

Personal data is described in the Privacy policy.

Changes

Licensor may update these terms. The “Last updated” date will change when that happens. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms where permitted by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence remain unaffected where they apply.
